NL Technologies Introduces Pharmenta
AptiPortTM Sampling Valve
Provides Positive Drainage Even from Upward Angled Sensor Ports.

New York, NY, April 15, 2002:  Now you can sample from any port on your tank, including angled sensor ports. The Pharmenta AptiPortTM sampling valve’s patented design offers a space-saving combination of orifice and drain passage arrangements that permits positive drainage of sample material, even from inclined sensor ports.

The Pharmenta AptiPortTM sampling valve was developed in response to client frustration with welded-in sampling valve designs that were discontinued, and for which they were unable to get spare parts.  These clients also wanted flexibility in sampling site selection.

According to Douglas Newberg, President of NL Technologies, Ltd., “The average tank in use today has one downward or horizontally oriented site used for sampling, but has many upward oriented ports to accept a range of different or redundant sensors.  When helping clients select a sampling site, we found there was always a port where we wanted to sample, but it was angled up.  So we only had to find a way to get samples to drain down through upward angled ports.  The Pharmenta AptiPort sampling valve is the answer.”

The AptiPort sampling valve can be easily installed in upward, downward and horizontal oriented ports.  The AptiPort valve can be moved from port to port in seconds because it installs like a sensor probe. Its sanitary, crevice-free design is cleanable and steam-sterilizable-in-place and is suitable for both research and production applications.

For processes that require steam resterilzation, the Pharmenta AptiPort™ valve offers optional valve insulation. This insulation inhibits heat transfer during steam resterilization, which might otherwise adversely affect the process.

The Pharmenta AptiPort sampling valve simplifies the transfer of sampling methods from one tank to another in scale up and post-approval change situations. With exactly the same internal passage geometry in ¾” and 1" sizes, samples taken from small bore research tank portholes will be physically the same as those taken from larger bore production tank portholes, eliminating another variable and making scale-up easier.

The AptiPort™ valve is available with a variety of biocompatible diaphragm materials, connection, and actuator styles.  It fits ¾ inch (19 mm) or 1 inch (25 mm) ports.   It is suitable for pharmaceutical, biotech, food and beverage and fine chemical applications.

The Pharmenta AptiPort™ sampling valve is available immediately from NL Technologies, Ltd. (Phone: 888-765-7838 or 609-750-1251.)  Additional information on the products and the company can be found at www.pharmenta.com.
